Igniting a Company Purpose Beyond the Page
Igniting Purpose Beyond the Page
A leading accounting firm, dedicated to driving adoption around a newly defined purpose statement, recognized that words alone would not shift organizational culture. To transform their mission from a static document into a lived experience, they engaged Statement Co. to design and moderate a high-stakes leadership panel at their company-wide all-hands meeting. The goal was to move beyond high-level strategy and foster a genuine, human connection between senior leadership and the entire firm.
The Opportunity
While the firm had established a strong purpose statement, internal engagement remained surface-level. There was a critical need to humanize the leadership team and create a "psychologically safe" environment where team members—especially newer associates—felt empowered to engage. The challenge was to facilitate a live conversation for over 200 employees at The Nines Hotel that felt open, transparent, and welcoming, rather than scripted or corporate.
What We Delivered
Narrative Prep & Coaching: Facilitated intensive prep sessions with three executive panelists, coaching them to move past "talking points" toward evocative, personal stories that connected their individual journeys to the firm’s broader purpose.
Balanced Facilitation Strategy: Engineered a structured yet fluid questioning framework designed to maintain professionalism while inviting vulnerability and transparency.
Live Panel Moderation: Orchestrated the live event in Portland for 200+ attendees, managing the flow between the three leaders on stage and setting a tonal foundation of psychological safety that encouraged authentic dialogue.
Engagement Architecture: Designed a feedback loop that prioritized audience interaction, ensuring the transition from leadership stories to firm-wide participation was seamless.
What Made a Statement
The session shattered previous engagement benchmarks, resulting in more audience questions than any prior leadership session in the firm’s history. The impact was most visible among newer team members, who gained the confidence to request the microphone and engage the panelists with deep, meaningful inquiries. By moving the purpose statement from "words on a page" to a shared lived experience, the collaboration drove a measurable increase in firm-wide alignment and strengthened the connection between the team and its executive leadership.
